Agricultural greenhouses are key toward a sustainable food supply, however they have significant energetic needs due to heating and artificial lightening. There is a push from governments, retailers and consumers to reduce carbon footprint of greenhouses. Voltiris enables double-use of large greenhouses surfaces to produce electricity without impacting their high agricultural yield. Voltiris introduces a solar panel design to generate electricity from the part of sunlight's spectrum that is unused for crop growth.

The Role

Voltiris is looking for a hands-on Mechanical Design & Testing Intern to support the development of the next generation of our solar tracking system.

You will help turn engineering ideas into real components by creating CAD models and production drawings, building prototypes and test setups, and validating designs through practical testing.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys combining computer-based design with hands-on engineering. We are looking for someone curious, practical, and motivated to learn.

Your Missions
  • Support the mechanical design of our next-generation solar tracking system

  • Create and update 3D CAD models, assemblies, and 2D production drawings

  • Modify existing parts and maintain product data within our PLM system

  • Design and manufacture prototypes, tooling, and test components using 3D printing

  • Build practical test setups for components and mechanical assemblies

  • Define and carry out mechanical test and validation plans

  • Analyse system behaviour, identify issues, and propose design improvements

  • Prepare components and assemblies for field testing

  • Collaborate with suppliers to ensure designs are practical and production-ready

  • Document design decisions, test methods, observations, and results

Hard Skills We’re Looking For
  • Currently completing, or recently completed, a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Development, or a related field

  • Initial experience with a 3D CAD tool such as Fusion 360, SolidWorks, CATIA, Inventor, Creo, or similar

  • Ability to create or understand basic 2D manufacturing drawings

  • Basic understanding of dimensions, tolerances, materials, mechanical assemblies, and production processes

  • Interest or initial experience in 3D printing and rapid prototyping

  • Comfortable using basic workshop and measurement tools

  • Interest in mechanical testing and experimental validation

  • Ability to work methodically, document observations, and draw conclusions from test results

  • Experience with measurement equipment, data analysis, or FEA is a plus, but not required

Experience gained through student projects, internships, laboratory work, makerspaces, or personal projects is welcome.

Fusion 360 is used internally at Voltiris.
