Agricultural greenhouses are key toward a sustainable food supply, however they have significant energetic needs due to heating and artificial lightening. There is a push from governments, retailers and consumers to reduce carbon footprint of greenhouses. Voltiris enables double-use of large greenhouses surfaces to produce electricity without impacting their high agricultural yield. Voltiris introduces a solar panel design to generate electricity from the part of sunlight's spectrum that is unused for crop growth.

The Role

Voltiris is looking for an analytically driven System Engineer to challenge and rebuild the assumptions behind our electrical integration and solar tracking systems. This is not a maintenance role, it's a mandate to question why current cabling, network, and tracking architectures exist in their current form, build the data and evidence to prove a better model, and drive that model into industrialized reality.

You'll treat every recurring field issue as a hypothesis to test, and drive to closing through collaboration. Your success is measured by how much complexity, failure rate, and installation time you can strip out of the system, backed by data, not opinion.

What We're Offering

  • A mandate to redesign, not just document, real authority to challenge existing cabling, network, and tracking architecture decisions

  • Direct ownership of the data and firmware layer behind tracking accuracy, predictive maintenance, and system health (a genuinely analytical, high-leverage technical domain)

  • Autonomy: you set the hypotheses, define the validation methods, and decide what evidence is strong enough to act on

  • A role at the intersection of hard engineering and strategic systems thinking, with a purely hands-on installation job

  • Direct interface with external electronics, firmware, and motor suppliers, where your technical arguments will need to carry weight

Hard Skills We Need

Data & Firmware Intelligence (core of the role)

  • Strong background in firmware development or embedded systems, ideally applied to motion control, tracking, or precision positioning

  • Ability to design and run validation methodologies for tracking precision, repeatability, and long-term fault behavior, hypothesis in, evidence out

  • Experience building data-driven monitoring/analytics tools (anomaly detection, predictive maintenance models, system health dashboards)

  • Comfort working with quantitative performance data to challenge existing supplier specs or in-house assumptions

Systems & Architecture

  • Ability to model and simplify electrical/communication architectures, Ethernet networks, low-voltage control cabling, communication interfaces, to reduce systemic complexity

  • Skilled at defining interface specifications and system-level standards that others (electricians, installers, suppliers) execute against

  • Experience turning field-observed failure patterns into engineering-grade specifications (BOMs, test plans, qualification reports)

Evidence-Based Field Engagement

  • Willingness to go on-site and travel, to gather the evidence base for architectural decisions

  • Ability to synthesize scattered field observations into a structured case for change, and to present that case persuasively to internal teams and external suppliers

  • Track record of driving suppliers (motor, electronics, firmware) toward measurable spec improvements through data-backed argument

Certification & Rigor

  • Experience contributing to certification processes for electromechanical or tracking systems — structured, evidence-based documentation is a strength

What success looks like after 12 months

  • Cabling, network, and tracking architecture redesigned and validated with data

  • Failure rate, complexity, and installation time measurably reduced across deployed systems

  • Monitoring and predictive maintenance tools in production, catching issues before they escalate

  • You are the first call when a recurring field issue needs to be understood, not just patched

Our offer

  • Founding technical mandate, real authority over architecture decisions, not a maintenance seat

  • Direct access to founders and Operating Committee from day one

  • Equity; if Voltiris wins, you win with it

  • A front-row seat to one of Switzerland's most promising cleantech companies

  • Location: Lausanne, with possibility of hybrid working and regular on-site travel

If you have taken a system apart, proven a better version with data, and pushed it into industrialized reality, that is exactly what we want to hear about.
