Senior control system engineer
Enschede, Netherlands
Do you want to work as a technical expert on complex mechatronic systems where dynamics, performance and control come together? Are you energised by technical challenges that require you to truly understand how a system behaves and which engineering choices make the difference?
As a Senior control system engineer at Demcon High-Tech Systems in Enschede, you will take a leading technical role in challenging high-tech development projects. You will have the freedom to provide technical direction, solve complex engineering challenges and share your expertise with other engineers.
Then we would love to meet you.
About Demcon
Demcon develops and manufactures high-quality technology and complex systems, from concept through to series production. Driven by our ambition to solve societal and technological challenges, we combine in-depth engineering expertise with creativity to develop solutions that make a real impact. We build prototypes, industrialise and manufacture innovative systems, with a strong focus on mechatronics. In doing so, we bring together mechanical, electrical and software engineering with disciplines such as robotics, optics and data science. This enables us to support our customers throughout the entire product lifecycle.
The Demcon group consists of more than 50 specialised companies that together form a one-stop shop for high-tech innovation. With more than 1,100 colleagues worldwide, we are building the technology of tomorrow.
Within Demcon high-tech systems, multidisciplinary teams work on challenging development projects, ranging from proof of concept to complete system solutions. Together with our customers, we bring high-tech innovations from idea to realisation.
What are you going to do?
As a Senior control system engineer, you focus on understanding, predicting and controlling the dynamic behaviour of complex mechatronic systems. You look beyond the control loop itself and analyse how mechanics, electronics, software and control work together to achieve the required performance and robustness.
Modelling, simulation and analysis are key aspects of your work. Based on an in-depth understanding of system behaviour, you make well-founded design decisions and develop effective control concepts. You contribute to technical decisions at system level and ensure that systems deliver the required performance under a wide range of conditions.
Your responsibilities include:
- Modelling and analysing the dynamic behaviour of complex high-tech systems;
- Translating customer and system requirements into technical design choices, dynamic models and control concepts;
- Designing and implementing advanced control solutions for complex mechatronic systems;
- Simulating, validating and optimising system behaviour and control loops;
- Investigating interactions between different engineering disciplines and subsystems;
- Solving complex challenges related to system dynamics and control;
- Taking technical ownership of dynamics and control within projects;
- Identifying and managing technical risks related to stability, performance, robustness and controllability;
- Collaborating with system, software, electronics and mechanical engineers to develop integrated system solutions;
- Contributing to technical decision-making and system architecture choices.
As a senior expert, you also play an important role in developing the field of control engineering within the organisation. You actively share your knowledge, coach junior and medior engineers, contribute to engineering methodologies and best practices, and help further strengthen control expertise within Demcon.
What do you bring to the table?
You are highly analytical and curious about how complex systems really work. You are not satisfied with a solution that simply works; you want to understand why it works. You can effortlessly switch between technical details and the bigger system picture, and you know how to explain complex technical concepts clearly to both colleagues and customers.
In addition, you have:
- An MSc or PhD in Control Engineering, Mechatronics, Systems & Control, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field;
- At least 5 years of relevant experience with dynamic mechatronic systems and control engineering solutions;
- Demonstrable experience in modelling, simulating and analysing dynamic systems;
- Experience with state-space control, observer techniques, MIMO systems and/or other advanced control strategies;
- Knowledge of MATLAB/Simulink and relevant analysis and design tools;
- Experience working in a high-tech development environment;
- The ability to translate complex system and performance requirements into the key system parameters and design choices that determine dynamic behaviour;
- Experience coaching and providing technical guidance to engineers;
- Strong communication skills and the ability to explain complex technical challenges clearly;
- An entrepreneurial, creative, committed, results-oriented and customer-focused mindset.
What do we offer you?
At Demcon, you work on technology that truly matters. In an informal organisation where there is room for initiative and enjoyable collaboration with driven colleagues, you contribute to solutions for today and tomorrow. We genuinely care about you as a person and encourage job satisfaction and a healthy work-life balance.
In addition, you can expect:
- 8% holiday allowance, with the option to have it paid in May or monthly with your salary;
- 25 days of annual leave and 6 additional ATV days based on full-time employment, with the option to purchase additional days;
- A hybrid working arrangement: up to 2 days per week working from home for full-time employees, always in consultation with your manager;
- Training courses and programmes through the Demcon Academy to support your personal and professional development;
- A good pension scheme with Zwitserleven;
- A bicycle plan/lease bicycle scheme;
- A vitality programme including sports clinics, fresh fruit, workshops and a workplace assessment;
- An active staff association, with different activities every month and an annual Demcon weekend.
