Clinical Digital Innovation Lead

At Bayer we’re visionaries, driven to solve the world’s toughest challenges and striving for a world where, ‘Health for all, Hunger for none’ is no longer a dream, but a real possibility. We’re doing it with energy, curiosity and sheer dedication, always learning from unique perspectives of those around us, expanding our thinking, growing our capabilities and redefining ‘impossible’. There are so many reasons to join us. If you’re hungry to build a varied and meaningful career in a community of brilliant and diverse minds to make a real difference, there’s only one choice.

We’re now looking for a Clinical Digital Innovation Lead, where you will drive the design, evaluation, and responsible integration of advanced digital and AI-enabled solutions across Clinical Development & Operations (CD&O). You lead high-priority strategic initiatives that enhance scientific excellence, operational performance, patient centricity, and business agility. Collaborating closely with CD&O teams, R&D functions, DS&AI, and relevant partners, you identify and prioritize digital and AI opportunities that demonstrably improve processes and outcomes. A core focus is establishing governance, standards, and best practices for the safe, compliant, and value-oriented introduction of AI into clinical processes — from early assessment and experimentation through scaled implementation. This role requires a forward-looking individual with strong domain understanding, sharp analytical capabilities, and the ability to translate emerging technologies into tangible business impact.

This position can be located in Espoo, Finland or Basel, Switzerland.

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Define and evolve the CD&O AI opportunity pipeline by scanning emerging technologies, evaluating feasibility, and prioritizing use cases based on strategic fit, risk, and measurable value

  • Establish and steward governance frameworks for AI usage in clinical processes, ensuring transparency, traceability, responsible use, and compliance with internal policies and external regulatory requirements

  • Partner with Data Science (DS) &AI, IT, and clinical teams to assess, prototype, and validate AI solutions, ensuring alignment with business needs and scientific and operational standards

  • Lead or oversee the implementation of selected digital and AI initiatives, ensuring they integrate seamlessly into operational processes and deliver intended outcomes

  • Drive structured evaluation of AI-enabled solutions, using metrics and data-driven assessments to measure impact on efficiency, quality, and user experience

  • Support market and vendor assessments, including AI-focused technologies, platforms, and service providers

  • Collaborate with clinical subject matter experts, DS&AI, IT, and process owners to shape high-quality, user-centric solutions

  • Facilitate cross-functional working sessions to define requirements, validate concepts, and integrate learnings into iterative development cycles

  • Drive targeted and reliable management of assigned key stakeholders, developing tailored engagement roadmaps that foster mutual clarity, alignment, and sustained satisfaction

  • Build strong partnerships with internal and external innovation networks to stay abreast of AI and digital advancements relevant to clinical development

  • Lead structured change management and communication approaches to ensure adoption of new digital and AI-based ways of working

  • Translate complex digital/AI topics into clear, understandable messaging for stakeholders at all levels

  • Model and promote a culture of experimentation, continuous learning, and responsible innovation.

WHO YOU ARE

  • Advanced degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Biomedical Informatics, Engineering, or Life Sciences with strong digital and AI exposure

  • Minimum of 6 years of experience working with digital solutions in healthcare, clinical development, or adjacent domains

  • Hands-on experience evaluating or applying AI/ML technologies to real-world problems

  • Strong understanding of clinical processes and workflows, and the ability to translate them into digital and AI-enabled improvements

  • Demonstrated capability to analyze data, build business cases, and guide decision-making using evidence and metrics

  • Strong communication skills to convey complex topics clearly and align diverse stakeholders

  • Effective change leader able to collaborate across functions and influence without authority

  • Solid project leadership skills from concept to implementation

  • Knowledge of regulatory and ethical considerations related to AI and digital technologies in healthcare

  • Demonstrates high self-awareness, system thinking, and inclusive leadership

  • Embraces rapid learning cycles, experimentation, and continuous improvement
