Key responsibilities

This role has a unique structure focusing primarily on Packaging, while also maintaining broader Product expertise. You will drive circularity principles in Packaging design, ensuring regulatory compliance with PPWR mandates, and collaborating with cross-functional teams globally. On the Product sustainability side, you will serve as a subject matter expert for assigned product lines, execute LCA studies and EPDs, drive eco-design principles implementation, and support local sustainability pilots.

You'll interface with key stakeholders across global Competence Centers and Manufacturing Units, championing Sustainability as a competitive advantage.

This role is contributing to the Center of Excellence LCA & Eco-design in Innovation & Common Module Agile Unit, Smart Power Division.

You will be mainly accountable for:

• Develop and harmonize Packaging Sustainability and Circularity requirements for ABB Smart Power portfolio
• Ensure packaging strategies comply with EU Packaging Regulations (PPWR) and emerging legislative requirements
• Establish partnerships with local packaging reference persons, suppliers, and external committees supporting pilot projects for sustainable packaging solutions
• Monitor regulatory trends in packaging sustainability and provide compliance recommendations
• Conduct lifecycle assessments LCAs of Products & Packaging materials and processes to identify optimization opportunities
• Manage EPD projects ensuring compliance and market credibility
• Drive eco-design implementation and optimize environmental KPIs
• Support Division Sustainability targets through collaboration

Qualifications for the role

• A bachelor's or higher degree in design, materials or other relevant sciences.
• 2-4+ years of experience in packaging development with focus on sustainability and circular economy principles.
• Knowledge of packaging materials and their environmental impact
• Experience in Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)
• Familiarity with Ecodesign methodologies
• Familiarity with regulatory compliance in packaging industry
• Passionate about Circularity and Sustainability topics with an innovative mindset.
• Highly motivated team-player with a collaborative, learning-oriented, and solutions-focused approach.
• Ability to work cross-functionally and interface with global stakeholders.
• Fluently in german and English
